Not My Shame

Is a graphic novel I created which gives an insider’s view of the trauma caused by childhood sexual exploitation. It tackles complex issues, including victim-blaming, traumatic memory and dissociation, but is ultimately hopeful, showing how victims can be good parents and come to terms with their past through therapy, art and caring relationships.

Not my Shame by T.O.Walker was published by Singing Dragon in December 2017

“And suddenly I am flooded… terror, shame, despair, horror, disgust.”

“How can I talk about things I can’t pin down?”

This powerful graphic novel tackles complex issues with subtlety and sensitivity including the nature of traumatic memory, self-harm, victim-blaming, racism in the police, health and education services and the media’s impact. Not My Shame reveals how the past can be triggered by the present and how victims of sexual abuse can be excellent parents and successful in life in spite of this.

I See You

I See You is a comic about a girl being cared for by her father after being discharged from psychiatric hospital. The father cares emotionally and practically. He stays present in response to the girls anger and despair and try’s metaphorically to give the girl her childhood back. I See you will be published later this year in All Is Not Well anthology about care.
